How do you teach a child something that truly matters?

Not with a screen. You give them something real to hold.

When their little finger traces the deep groove of an akhar, the shape travels from their hand to their heart. They aren't just learning a letter; they're feeling a connection. This is learning that sticks.

Everything They Need in Their Hands:

  • One side holds the Gurmukhi akhar (the alphabet).
  • Flip it over for the Laga Matra (vowels) and Ginti (numbers).

The letters are deeply carved, so little fingers won't get lost or frustrated. It’s made of solid beech smooth wood, similar to our Traditional Fatti

More Than Just Tracing:

This is a board for play and discovery. Let them trace with their finger. Use the wooden stick to practice holding a pencil. Fill the letters with uncooked daal, colourful rice, or Play-Doh for a fun sensory game.

You're not just teaching them the alphabet. You're giving them a piece of their story to hold in their own two hands.

Our Story

It all started the day our 5-year-old pointed to the Gurbani in the Gutka Sahib and asked:“Mama… what language is this?”

In that moment, our hearts didn't just break—they stopped.

We were raising our kids in Canada, surrounded by mountains of English toys. We searched everywhere for a simple Punjabi alphabet board, but found nothing that felt right.

Then we remembered our own childhoods. Dadi’s patient hand helping us learn on the Fatti. The smell of her cooking still on her fingers as she taught us to write our name in Punjabi.

That’s when we knew what we had to do.

Some call it a Takhti. In our grandparents' villages, it was carved from neem wood. You held it, and suddenly you weren’t just a child—you were part of a story. But today, even in Punjab, the Fatti is gone, replaced by screens and noise.

So we sat at our kitchen table and brought it back.

We carved the original Fatti shape into safe, smooth beech wood. We engraved the Gurmukhi akhar (letters) on one side and the laga matra (vowels) on the other—deep enough for little fingers to follow.

This is more than a Montessori toy. It's the Fatti we all lost, reborn for our children.

  • For the toddler in Toronto tracing “ੴ” while rain taps on the window.
  • For the British-Punjabi boy in London who can finally write his Nani’s name.
  • For the daughter in Australia who points at a shabad in the Gurdwara and whispers, “Mama, I know that letter!”

No batteries. No apps. No screens.

Just real wood, real letters, and the same love that connects our families from Amritsar to Auckland.

We’re parents, just like you, who worried our kids would lose their language. This isn't made in a factory; it's made with the hope that a child somewhere is learning their akhar and feeling proud to be Punjabi.

Let your child’s fingers find their home — not in a screen, but in this wood.

FAQs

Is the Fatti board safe for my child?

Absolutely. Your child's safety is our number one priority. We craft each Fatti from a single, solid piece of Beech wood so there are no splinters or small parts. It's sanded to a buttery-smooth finish, and we use zero paints or chemicals—it's just pure, natural, non-toxic wood.

What age is this best for?

The Fatti is perfect for children ages 3 and up. Little ones (age 3-4) love tracing the letters with their fingers and playing sensory games. Older kids (age 5-6+) can use the wooden stylus to develop the fine motor skills they'll need for writing. As with all toys, we recommend adult supervision during play.

How do I clean the board?

It's easy! Simply wipe the board with a dry or lightly damp cloth to clean it. Because it's natural wood, please try to avoid getting it too wet or submerging it in water, as this can cause the wood to warp over time.

What comes in the box?

You'll receive everything your child needs to get started: one double-sided wooden Fatti board and one smooth wooden tracing pen, all tucked inside our beautiful, gift-ready packaging.

Is this a good gift for a baby shower or birthday?

The Fatti is a truly meaningful present that stands out from the usual plastic toys. It’s a gift of heritage, learning, and play, all in one. Plus, it arrives in beautiful packaging, so it feels special right out of the box.
